“On the top it has a bouquet of
white or silver flowers, or confectioner’s quaint dolls representing the bride
and groom.” – Emily Post
For those of you who have not heard
of Emily Post, she is the author of the most well know book on everything life,
business, and event etiquette. With that being said, even Miss Etiquette
herself thought that a cake topper was a must! For some couples, you may
already have a specific set of figurines or customized topper you want to use.
For others, here are some ideas!
1) Family Heirlooms
If you have chosen an elegant cake
complete with lace detailing or fancy piping them perhaps use a broach that has
been passed down for generations as the perfect topper for a sophisticated,
vintage cake.
2) Custom Figurines
The most old-fashion, fun option is
by far bride and groom figurines! For many couples, it is a way to incorporate
their occupations or hobbies into their wedding day. Have fun with it- just
like the couple above who worked for the FBI, or the couple below who opted for
the “Hunter and his Bride” dolls.
3) Monograms
Who doesn’t love a good monogram? We
have seen an increasing trend in customized monograms for an elegant, southern
wedding cake. Not only are they super affordable and easy to use, they will add
another personalized touch to your wedding day.
Last but not least….
3) Flowers
Perhaps the most commonly used wedding topper is
a beautiful arrangement of flowers. There is a reason why flowers are
everyone’s go to. For a very detailed cake, flowers offer a subtle but gorgeous
touch. If you are choosing this option, be sure to let your florist and baker
know so that they can collaborate on some ideas!
And always, be sure to get your
fabulous wedding photographer to capture these details of your wedding cake!
